It can be tough to fit in a proper workout while traveling. Lots of hotels do not offer gym access. While many people use this as an excuse to take a break from their workouts, it is easier than you think to get in a good workout while you are away from home.
1– Download a Workout App on your Phone
Phones can do anything nowadays, even give you a killer workout. A quick search of the App Store will reveal that there are many programs available to help you design an effective workout routine. Most of these programs can be adapted to only use bodyweight exercises, making them the perfect program to take on the road with you. If you are looking for some place to start, my personal favorites are Sweat With Kayla and P.Volve.
2– Take a Run Around Your New Surroundings
One of the best ways to explore a new place and get in a cardio workout is to go for a run. Whether you are exploring a new city or jogging along the beach, running, or even walking, to your destination can help to kill two birds with one stone. I recommend using apps like Underarmor’s Map My Run to help you plan out your route and keep you from getting lost.
One thing to keep in mind is to make sure you feel safe with your surroundings. Avoid running alone at night and on dimly lit streets.
3 – Join ClassPass
One of the greatest things about signing up for ClassPass is that you are not signing up to be part of one single gym. You are signing up to gain access to their worldwide fitness network. This means that you have access to over 30,000 fitness studios in cities around the world. If traveling is something that you do frequently, it may be worth checking out their program to find studios near you.
4- Bring a Jumprope
If you are looking for one item to pack in your suitcase to help you stay on track wit your fitness goals, look no further than the jumprope. Jumpropes are not only light and easy to pack, but they guarantee a good cardio workout. You can incorporate a simple 15-20 minute interval jumprope routine into your vacation, and still have time to explore your destination.
Start by setting a timer to jump for 2-3 minutes, followed by a 1 minute rest. Do this for at least 5 rounds. If that is not enough, you can alternate your jump segments with bodywork exercises such as crunches or lunges.
5 – Get Creative
While you may not have access to a gym on your vacation, but that does not mean that you cannot create a gym of your own! Ask your concierge if there is a local park or a hiking trail nearby. You can do pull-ups on the monkey bars, sprints in a field, and even create your own stairclimber on a public staircase. With a little imagination, almost anything can be turned into a gym.
