Last week I escaped Boston’s latest winter snowstorm with a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I met up with blogger babes Jyo Shankar and Paulina Perrucci for an early birthday girls trip to explore the beautiful Casa Velas, a luxury boutique hotel.
Upon arrival at Casa Velas, we were greeted by Peacocks and Peahens who freely roam around the entrance. It was not until our last day at the resort that we were able to catch one opening his feathers!
During our trip, we stayed in one of the hotels Grand Class Suites overlooking the golf course. This room came with 2 Queen beds and our own mini pool on the balcony.

Once settled into our room, our first stop was to the hotel restaurant, Emiliano, for lunch. Emiliano is a beautiful spot on the property with both indoor seating and outdoor seating facing the pool. And while you can’t go wrong with their menu, I highly recommend trying their mushroom quesadilla!
After lunch we took a tour around the property, checking out the hotel’s botanical gardens and the presidential suite. If you are traveling with a group, I highly recommend this suite! It comes with its own pool on the balcony.
While the main property of Casa Velas is not located on the water, they do have a second part to their hotel called the Ocean Club, which is only a 5-minute shuttle away! At the Ocean Club, you not only have access to the beach, but also another pool and restaurant.
Our first morning at Casa Velas was spent at the spa, receiving massages and trying their Hydrotherapy treatment. The Hydratherapy treatment is best before any treatment, helping you to relax your muscles for best results. It consists of 10 minutes of sauna, followed by a pressure shower, 10 minutes in the steam room, and then a soak in the hot tub.
After a full day at the spa and soaking in the sun by the pool, we ventured to Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, a sister resort to Casa Velas, for dinner at their new restaurant Sen Lin. The restaurant opened in November of 2018, the resort has outdone themselves with beautiful decor and a delicious menu.
Our last full day in Mexico was spent exploring the beautiful town of Sayulita. An hour drive from Casa Velas, we found it easiest to hire a driver for the day to take us around. Our first stop was to Playa Los Muertos, a beach where we had to walk through a graveyard to get to. But don’t worry! There is a public road that will lead you there, plus the graves are painted and colorful so it is not your average cemetery.
For lunch, we made our way to the actual town and stopped at La Esperanza, which I highly recommend for those who love healthy vegan meals as I do!
Our final day at Casa Velas was spent lounging by the pool drinking frozen beverages as we waited for our flights. To those considering vacationing in Mexico, I highly recommend looking in to staying at Casa Velas. Not only is their property gorgeous, but they have a very friendly staff and the service is hard to beat! As a guest at their hotel, you have all the benefits of staying at a charming boutique hotel, with access to the beach, a golf course, their pools, and the gym and spa. What more could you ask for?
