I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who has shown love and support to my photos taken at Airbnb’s Shell House on Isla Mujeres in Mexico. I particularly want to thank everyone who has reposted the image below allowing millions of people to see the image. It is safe to say that I had no idea how popular this image would be when I took it in December 2017.
Due to this photo’s popularity, I have received many messages asking about my stay at the Shell House. Everything from where the property is located to how to book a stay at the property. If you have ever dreamed of staying in a house shaped like a sea shell, you’re in luck! I have written down everything you need to know in order to book your bucket–list vacation!
Where Is This Airbnb Located?
The Shell House Airbnb is located on the island of Isla Mujeres near Cancun Mexico.
Preparing For Your Trip
How to Book
If you want to book this beautiful home you will need to click on this link and pick your vacation dates. Again, CLICK ME to look at the listing to book!
Once you have confirmed your trip, you will be in touch with Maria. I cannot say enough nice things about Maria! She will help you plan your whole trip to the island. From excursions to transportation, she is your girl! She will even help you to order takeout from the local restaurants once you are there.
How to Get Around
Once you are on the island, you will want a means of transportation. As beautiful as the Shell House is, it is not located near any shops or restaurants. While there are taxis available, they can often take a while. I highly recommend reserving a vehicle before you visit. While on the island, we rented a golf cart as our main mode of transportation, but there are also cars and motorbikes available. If you are staying at the Shell House, Maria will show you all of your options and help you to arrange your transportation.
Arriving To The Island
Once you arrive on Isla Mujeres, Maria will be there to pick you up and help you with your luggage. (Like I said, she’s the best!) If you have rented a golf cart, she will not only take you to pick up your wheels, but wait for you so that you can follow her to the house. If you need anything during your stay, she lives in a house nearby and is available to help with any questions.
THE HOUSE!
The Shell House is truly one of the most unique properties I have every stayed in. Not only is the outside of the house shaped like a seashell, but the interior also includes a shell design. From faucets made out of conch shells to a spiral shell inspired headboard, the owners have truly outdone themselves to live up to their name.
The house itself had 2 bedrooms and sleeps 4 people. Bedroom 1 is located on the second floor of the main house and includes 1 king sized bed, a full bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the pool. The second bedroom is located in a separate entrance but also includes one kind sized bed and its own full bathroom.
Apart from the bedrooms, there is a downstairs hangout area with a small kitchen and couch seating area. There is also a 3rd half- bathroom located in the downstairs of the main house.
And of course, you have access to your very own private pool, which includes pool floats including my favorite unicorn floatie.
House Tour
If you would like to see a full tour of the house, I have created a story highlight on my Instagram page @sweetcarolinaj. I start from the front of the pool and show you around all of the different rooms of the house so you can feel like you are there. CLICK HERE to get to my page and scroll through the story highlights until you come to the one for Cancun and Tulum under Mexico.
