Located just a 2 hour drive from Charlotte, North Carolina is the town of Asheville. The perfect getaway for a cozy weekend of antiquing, hiking, and exploring the expansive grounds of the Biltmore Estate.
Where to Stay
During your trip to Asheville, I highly recommend a stay at the Grand Bohemian Hotel. The Grand Bohemian plays into the theme of being the hunting lodge to the nearby Biltmore Estate. They have definitely spared no expense with their decor! Walking around the property, you feel as though you have been transported back in time, with a cozy fireplace in the lobby and antler decor spread throughout the property. During your stay, take a stroll through each floor to check out the artwork. They have an amazing, unique gallery throughout the halls.
In addition, the Grand Bohemian hotel is located in the Biltmore Village part of town. It is the closest hotel to the entrance of the Biltmore Estate and within walking distance of many popular shops and restaurants.
Where to Eat
One of my favorite things about Asheville (being a picky eater) is how many restaurants cater to vegans! The Grand Bohemian’s own Red Stag Grill has one of the best menus in town! Seriously though, I may or may not have taken home the recipe for their Carrot Honey Bisque- completely gluten and dairy free. And don’t worry, if you are not vegetarian like me, the grill still has plenty of meat options for you to choose from. You can check out their full menu here.
What to Do
Check out the Antique Shops
Asheville is home to a number of antique shops filled with treasures. If you are looking for something unique to add to your home (that is, if you have any extra room in your suitcase), these shops are definitely worth a look!
Explore the Biltmore Estate
Once a private home of the Vanderbilt family, the Biltmore Estate is the largest, privately owned home in the US. Today, the house is now a museum. Take a stroll around the expansive gardens or book one of the many excursions on their website. It is safe to day, you could spend the whole day getting lost on this property.
