New York City is a hotspot for health and wellness. It is a city known for its many innovative fitness classes, restaurants, and spas. This is why one of my favorite things to do when I visit is to create my own wellness trip. Below I have rounded up some of my favorite places to check out next time you find yourself in NYC.
Start With a Workout
Before you spend the rest of the weekend pampering yourself, start your weekend off with a little sweat. New York City attracts some of the best trainers in the world. Trainers that can really get your butt into shape. But with hundreds of potential classes to choose from, I have highlighted a few of my favorites below.
For toning: P.volve– Their “pre-hab” approach to fitness is designed to help women strengthen their bodies without putting on the bulk. The great thing about P.volve is that they have an online program. So if you like their class, you can continue their workouts from the comfort of your home.
For dancing: Body by Simone– Developed by one of Hollywood’s most popular trainers, Body by Simone combines dance movements with bodyweight and light resistance movements to give you a great workout.
For cycling: SoulCycle– As they say on their website, “SoulCycle is more than a workout- it’s an experience”. Each class is set in a dark, dimly lit room with pump up music playing. The instructors are known to have high energy to motivate you to push through to the end.
For HIIT workouts: Barry’s Bootcamp– HIIT workouts are becoming more and more popular and for good reason! They help you to burn a tremendous amount of calories in a very short amount of time. They have also proven to keep burning calories long after your workout is over. If you are looking for a great High Intensity workout, few places do it as well as Barry’s Bootcamp. Their workouts will elevate your heart rate for the duration of the class.
Sweat Your Toxins Out in the Sauna
After pushing through an intense workout, head to an infrared sauna to sweat out the rest of your toxins. Benefits of infrared sauna include detoxification and calming of your nervous system. Sauna also helps boost your immune system and collagen production. Places such as Higher Dose set you up with a private room with your own personal sauna. Each session lasts 30 – 60 minutes and you can even bring a friend so you two can sweat together!
Give Your Face a Workout
If you thought you were done with your workouts for the day think again! Before switching over to the spa services, stop by the Face Gym to give your face some much needed toning. At the Face Gym, your trainer uses specialized muscle manipulation techniques to “lift, sculpt, tone, and tighten”. And I have to admit, it feels really cool! If you are curious as to what a face workout looks like, you can check out videos on their Youtube channel here. Also be sure to check out their Instagram page here for before and after results.
Treat Yourself to a Manicure
There are numerous places to get your nails done in NYC, but one of my favorite places is Sunday Studio. At Sunday Studio they use a nontoxic, vegan nail polish and even offer custom nail art designs. When you arrive, you can choose from 1 of 8 different designs to add on to your manicure. Lastly, what sets Sunday Studio apart is the option to include a meditation or a massage into your service.
